The workshop focuses on:</p> <p>•<span style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Early intervention therapy and its advantages,</p> <p>•<span style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Role of parents and teachers in identifying and helping children with developmental delays,</p> <p>•<span style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Discussions with experienced paediatric therapists and</p> <p>•<span style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Case studies.</p> <p>The workshop provides a platform to address some concerns and help children achieve their full potential.</p> <p><span style="line-height: 1.3em;">In 2013-14, AANCHAL organised 2 such workshops: one each for English and Gujarati medium schools in Ahmedabad. 49 teachers from 24 schools participated in the workshops. The workshop was conducted by a panel of eminent therapists and doctors from Ahmedabad who have been working in the field of medicine, child development, and early intervention therapy.  These workshops helped teachers understand a practical perspective of how to identify and assist children with development delays in their classrooms. It also gave them an understanding of how to counsel parents for helping their children get needed therapy. It also gave them an opportunity to interact with the therapists and get answers to some difficulties that face with special needs children in their classrooms. </span></p> <p><span style="line-height: 1.3em;">The first workshop was inaugurated by Smt. Meenakshiben Patel, Mayor of Ahmedabad. She extended her support to the organization. Smt. Kalindiben Patel, Corporator of Maningar was also present at the occasion. </span></p> <p><span style="line-height: 1.3em;">Premise of the project: Experts believe that maximum growth of the brain takes place in the child’s first five years of life. An international study reports that one out of five children have a mental health problem in India and only one in 50 are fortunate to get some treatment; Gujarat is no exception now.
